Town centres across the world have been badly affected by bad planning and poor maintenance, no question. Competition from shopping centres and retail malls went unanswered, for many, they simply went into a state of dilapidation and subsequent collapse.

This is not the complete narrative, some town centres have benefitted from good leadership, intelligent planning and first class execution of action items designed to enhance ‘sense of place’, good design and excellent customer experiences.

Each town centre has choices to make, changes that will improve the kind and calibre of trade. No two are identical and building on uniqueness can deliver significant success. This does not happen organically, it must be planned and executed.
